RENTAL CARS

RENTAL CARS

My recent rental in SF was a Saturn Ion. Let me tell you what is wrong with this car. I freaked out because I was driving on 101 and thought I didn't have my headlights on the whole time because I realized there were no lights from the dashboard in front of me. Well, that's because the dash board is in the center of the car. Nothing behind the wheel. Whew! But then I wanted to change lanes, so I turned on the left blinker and then freaked out again! The left blinker blinked on the left side of the lit dashboard area, which is in the center of the car - so the light was blinking to my right. How stupid. I've driven half the cars out there in the US - mostly rentals - and this was a first. I was able to find a photo of the dashboard, so you can see what I am talking about.

Am I being a snob? If it weren't for the strange dashboard configuration, it was a fine rental. Apart from the few luxe cars, my rentals are mostly compact, mid-sized cars -- occasionally I get upgraded to full-size or SUV. Some feedback on other cars I've rented:
- Land Rover (This was a sponsor car - real smooth!)
- Cadillac Escalade (Huge, and I'm too un-cool to drive this)
- Volvo S60 (Nice, but I'm too young to drive this)
- Chevy Malibu (eh)
- PT Cruiser Convertible (Loud and didn't know where to find a light inside)
- Ford Taurus (eh)
- Kia Sportage (Great car but air conditioning broke in the middle of 100+ degree weather)
- HHR (Ugliest car of the bunch by far - looks like a toy)
- Pontiac G6 (not bad)
- Nissan Altima (I like my Honda Accord better)
- Ford Freestar (No! I don't want to be a soccer mom)
- Chrysler Sebring (eh)
- Kia Sportage (Nice small SUV - not bad)
- Ford Focus (eh)
- Toyota Prius (Fun! And environmentally friendly :) but can be load when you speed up or go up hills)
