LOVE ACTUALLY... IS EVERYWHERE

Today, I was reminded of the scene in Love Actually where all these people were hugging and greeting each other at the airport. I watched Love Actually over the holidays, and I was going to blog that I thought this scene was completely inaccurate of the way it really is. People travel a lot on business, pick up their own cars, or take cabs to their destination. In my case, my driver picks me up outside at passenger pick-up. I thought, not that many people actually come into the terminal to pick up their friends and family.

As I was going through security at SFO today, I noticed a significant number of people standing between the elevators and security. They were waiting for arrivals. One person actually had flowers with him. How sweet! I didn't stay in the security long enough to see people come out from the arrival gates to see the Love Actually scene unfold before me, but I was imagining it.

I've been so jaded by the familiarity of the airport and the frustrations of every single part of the process from landing to the moment I step outside. I think about what would be easiest, not what would be nice. It would be nice to be greeted with a hug when arriving at the airport. That would make travel better... Or rather, maybe better travel (meaning, traveling to see people I love) might make travel altogether that much better (because I'd be happy to be traveling out there).

So, friends... the next time you fly out to the New York area, let me know. Email me, text me. As long as I'm in town, I'll come out to pick you up. I'll park my car and come to the terminal and give you a BIG hug when you get here!

*sigh*

The things I think about while waiting for my flight, which is delayed, of course...
