I decided to be a part of Bike to Work Day. First time. Took forever. Not the biking part, but everything else.
- Got dressed in bike-friendly gear and made sure that was carrying a backpack - 5 min
- Went downstairs, unlocked my bike - 5 min
- Biked to the ferry, bought a bought a ticket ($7.75 + $1.00 surcharge for bike) - 5 min
- Waited for the next ferry - 10 min
- Took the ferry over to NYC - 5 min
- Biked to work, trying to keep up with the speedy regulars on the west side highway - 10 min
- Found the bike room, found a spot, locked up the bike - 5 min
- Took the elevator up to my desk - 5 min
- Wiped the sweat off my forehead, freshened up, got a drink of water - 10 min
It was fun this time around, but not worth it time-wise for me, I decided. Plus, this severely limits what I wear to work. I was scrubby and a little sweaty after the bike ride. I also didn't enjoy my ride home quite as much in the dark.
I'll stick to public transportation.
