CAR SERVICE SCAM??

The other day, I took a car service to the airport. I was a little grumpy that I was traveling on a Sunday, so I didn’t really pay attention to the roads I was taking. The driver took me through a lot of back roads, which I was hoping were shortcuts to getting to Newark. It took me maybe 5-10 minutes longer than it does normally. I was still on time for my flight, so I didn’t make a fuss, but boy was I angry when I saw my receipt. He charged me for $10.80 in tolls. But we didn’t take any toll roads!!! I know they charge us for tolls both ways, but I hardly think that would come out to be $10.80. I felt cheated. He is probably charging his company for the toll that he didn’t pay and pocketing the extra money.

I know I’m not paying the bill – my company is. It cost me 5-10 minutes extra. If this was regulated, the driver would take the toll route and just expense it. I’ve talked to several drivers complaining about how the recession and tighter corporate spending has hurt their business, so I have sympathy. I really do. However, I don’t like the feeling of being cheated one bit!
