EAVESDROPPING
I took the train to Boston. Worked the entire way. Then took the Red Line. The thing about subways is that you have no cell connectivity, so I find that I do a lot of my people watching on the subway. Unless I'm with friends, there are no other distractions. Not only do I watch people, I also hear people. Not because I'm deliberately listening, but because I just hear them.
So yesterday I couldn't help but notice a guy and a girl, probably in their mid twenties. I thought they were students, but the guy definitely said he worked. He was wearing a black Northface shell and jeans with a cap - very normal looking and tall. He was with a blond German with glasses, who was wearing a very red coat with purple pants with thin red stripes and sneakers. A little more interesting. In any case, I started to passively eavesdrop on their conversation. It wasn't interesting at first.
In front of me, there was a tall brunette sitting. I looked at her and immediately thought - you know, I could be her friend. Ever feel that way about certain strangers? I was looking at her and she started to try to hold back a smile. I thought, she must be thinking of something funny. But then I realized that she was doing the same thing I was - eavesdropping.
